DUSHANBE, March 7, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik border guards killed a member of an armed group who had crossed over from Afghanistan and lost an officer during a clash along the border.
A statement released by the Main Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) yesterday says, “A clash between a border patrol and an armed nine-strong group, which crossed over from Afghanistan, took place near the “Panj” frontier post early Saturday, March 5.”
As a result of exchange of fire, one of trespassers was killed and another one was wounded. One of Tajik border guards, Warrant Officer Suhrob Safolov, was also killed in Saturday’s skirmish.
The Afghan armed group was reportedly headed by Mirafzal waladi Arbab Sherafzal and the killed trespasser was identified as Mulla Fashiddin waladi Qurban.
Operation to hunt down and eliminate other members of this terrorist group is under way.
The trespassers reportedly crossed over from Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province.
Meanwhile, Afghan media sources report armed trespassers that illegal crossed into Tajik territory last Saturday are members of the Taliban movement. Taliban militants reportedly now control 30 percent of territory of the Imam-Sahib district in Kunduz province.
