Five new bus links connecting towns and cities of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are expected to be launched next month

“During July, five new bus links connecting towns and cities of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will be launched,” Sulton Kamolov, the head of Asian Express Company, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“Bus links connecting Dushanbe to the Uzbek cities of Denau and Termez, the Tajik northern city of Panjakent to the Uzbek city of Samarqand, the Tajik northern city of Khujand to the Uzbek city of Kokand, and the Tajik northern city of Istaravshan to the Uzbek city of Bekabad will be launched during the next month,” Kamolov noted.

Tajikistan and Uzbekistan reopened bus links connecting their cities and towns last month after the 26-year interruption.

The first shuttle bus with passengers on board arrived in the Tajik northern city of Khujand from the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, in the afternoon of May 15.

The total length of the road from Khujand to Tashkent is 174 kilometers and a ticket for this route costs 50.00 somoni.

Recall an agreement on reopening bus links between the large cities of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan was signed in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, in April this year.  The document was inked by senior representatives of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan’s Auto Transport Agency.

In all, twelve regular bus routes are expected to be launched to the Uzbek cities of Tashkent, Samarqand Bukhara, Ferghana, Denau, Kokand, Andijan and Termez.

This has reportedly become possible due to a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on international highway service that was signed in Dushanbe on March 9 during Uzbek president’s state visit to Tajikistan.
