Tajik Foreign Minister, Sirojidin Muhriddin, yesterday met in Geneva with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

Muhriddin and Szijjártó reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Tajikistan and Hungary.

The two sides agreed to work out draft agreements on expansion of trade and economic cooperation and submit them for consideration to their governments.

They also exchanged views on issues related to cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism and other types of translational organized crime.

It is to be noted that the meeting took place on the sidelines of a two-day conference on Afghanistan that conclude din Geneva on November 28.

The goal of the conference was to show the solidarity of the international community with the Afghan people and the government in their efforts for peace and prosperity; and for the Afghan government to renew its commitment to development and reform.  The conference was also an opportunity to emphasize the importance of the development and reform agenda and the need to advance it as a constructive contribution to peace and security.

The Geneva Conference on Afghanistan was held between two pledging conferences: the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan (2016) and the next pledging conference expected to be held in 2020.
