Date:

A woman from Jomi district in Khatlon province could face up to 15 years in prison.  She has been found guilty of murder after she buried her three-year-old grandson alive in ravine in September this year.

Consideration of case of a 58-yearold Hojaroi Ashourova is going on in the Khatlon regional court.  Criminal proceedings have been instituted against her under the provision of Article 104 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – murder.

“If convicted, she could face up to 15 years in prison,” an official source at the Khatlon prosecutor’s office told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the preliminary investigation has established that Hojaroi Ashourova buried her 3-year-old grandson Behrouzjon alive in ravine in the district on September 12.  The baby’s body was reportedly found six days later.

The cause of this brutal crime is unknown because the woman still keeps silence.

A verdict against Hojaroi Ashourova is expected next week.
