Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov is expected to pay an official visit to Tajikistan from February 4-5.

On February 5, Lavrov will be received by President Emomali Rahmon, a source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.

While in Dushanbe, Lavrov will also hold talks with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

Russian foreign minister is expected to discuss with high-ranking Tajik state officials issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan as well as cooperation between the two nations within the frameworks of international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the source added.

Sergey Lavrov (born March 21, 1950) is a Russian diplomat and politician.  In office since 2004, he is the Foreign Minister of Russia.  Previously, he was the Russian Representative to the UN, serving from 1994 to 2004.

Sergey Lavrov is regarded as continuing in the style of his predecessor: a brilliant diplomat but a civil servant rather than a politician.
