Over the first six months of this year, the average daily calorie intake per capita in Tajikistan was 2,617.20, which was little more than the ration recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO)United, says report released by the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan recently. 

Food Security and Poverty in Tajikistan, in particular, notes that the ration recommended by World Health is 2,100 kilocalories per day.   

According to the report, the per capita bread consumption over the first six months of this year has amounted to 80.4 kilograms. 

Over the same six-month period, the average per capita potato consumption has reportedly amounted to 21.1 kilograms, the average per capita consumption of vegetables, melons and gourds – 52.2 kilograms, the average per capita consumption of milk and dairy products – 36.8 kilograms, the average per capita consumption of meat and meat products – 6.6 kilograms, the average per capita consumption of vegetable oils and other fats – 8.2 kilograms, the average per capita consumption of eggs – 50 pieces, the average per capita consumption of sugar and confectioner's goods – 7.6 kilograms, and the average per capita consumption of fruits – 14.7 percent, the report says.  

Bread products reportedly account for the largest share of households’ product purchase costs – 34.3 percent.  

Recall, findings of a  survey conducted by marketing company KTM show that most of the population of Tajikistan spend a large part of their income on food.

Most of the population in Tajikistan live in rural areas and spend a large part of their income on food.

According to the survey, 30 percent of the urban population in Tajikistan spend 75 percent of their income on food.

35 other percent of the country’s urban pollution reportedly spend 50-75 percent of their income on food.

The same percentage of the urban population spend 25-50 percent of their income on food/

And only 1.0 percent of the urban population in Tajikistan spend less than 25 percent of their income on food.
