Risk of avalanches in mountain areas remains high, says emergency management committee

Date:

Although all highways in Tajikistan are open for traffic, risk of avalanches in mountain areas remains high, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

“To ensure safety of drivers on winter highways and provide urgent assistance there are currently rapid response rescue units patrolling the most dangerous sections of highways in mountain areas,” Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

The Emergencies Committee advises people not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily.

In case of emergency or any accidents on the roads people can call on the following phone numbers: 93 880 28 19; 221-91-10; and 223-13-11.
