Most complaints Tajik parliamentarians received last year concern housing shortage and the unfair division of property during a divorce.

Last year, 5,736 citizens of Tajikistan complain to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) or applied to it for help.

Most of all, the work of the social sector and judicial system has caused discontent among the country’s population, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“Mostly, people have complained about housing shortage, the fact that local authorities do not allocate lands for housing, low rates of pensions and allowances, drug inaccessibility,” said Sultonov.  “On the second place are complaints about improper work of law enforcement and judicial authorities.  People have complained about illegal detention, too harsh sentences and the unfair division of property during a divorce.”

According to him, the complaints were considered by parliamentarians and were sent to relevant agencies for further study and actions.

Meanwhile, MP Saidjaffar Usmonzda, who is also leader of the Democratic Party of Tajikistan (DPT), says the overwhelming majority of complaints he received from his voters last year concern social protection of people with disabilities, allocation of lands for housing and division of property during a divorce.”
