On Saturday March 28, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon had a phone conversation with his Kyrgyz counterpart Sooronbai Jeenbekov, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Rahmon and Jeenbekov reportedly discussed issues related to the coronavirus situation in the region and agreed to closely collaborate in preventing the spread of the illness.

They, in particular, discussed issues of curbing further cross-border spread of a novel coronavirus (OVID-19) in the region.

A special attention was given to coordination of joint efforts at the regional level for the purpose of preventing serious negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and expansion of interregional mutual support.

Rahmon noted that Tajikistan is ready to cooperate with all countries of the region in this direction, the Tajik president’s website said.

The presidents also discussed various aspects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between their countries, including activities of the joint omission for delimitation and demarcation of the disputable stretches of the shared border.

Recall, Tajikistan closed border crossing points (BCPs) on its common border with Kyrgyzstan on March 24.

As of March 29, Kyrgyzstan has confirmed 84 cases of infection.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan has not reported any confirmed infections yet.
