India provides another medical aid to Tajikistan

On Monday June 15, Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan Mr. Viraj Singh handed over another consignment of medical aid to Mr. Sohibjon Ziyodulloyev, Deputy Head of the Agency for State Material Reserves under the Government of Tajikistan for the friendly people of Tajikistan, according to the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe.

Since May 1, 2020, Government of India has sent approximately 14 tons of medical cargo to Tajikistan, including medicines and other medical stores to be used specially in the fight against COVID19 pandemic.  The medicines are part of the long-term medical assistance that India has been rendering to the friendly people and Government of Tajikistan.

The arrival of these medicines during this time when the entire world is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic speaks of the close bilateral and people to people ties between India and Tajikistan, and India’s commitment to assist its partner countries.  Indian-Tajik Medical cooperation was also discussed during the May 6, 2020 telephonic call between External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister of Tajikistan, Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

The medical consignment has reached Tajikistan with special flights operated for repatriation of stranded Indians from Tajikistan.  Between May 27, 2020 and June 14, 2020, Indian Embassy in coordination with Indian and Tajik authorities, operated 8 special flights- 2 by Indian Airline Air India (on May 27 and 28, 2020) and 6 by Tajik Airline Somon Air (on June 6, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 14) from Dushanbe to various cities in India.  1312 Indians were reportedly repatriated through these flights while 65 Tajiks were brought back home, including 46 Tajik professionals / students who had gone under various Government of India sponsored courses to study in India.
