Just over 1 billion somoni was spent on payment for goods and services in 8 months of this year.

The number of holders of bank payment cards in the republic by September of this year exceeded 2.6 million, which is almost 23% more compared to the same period in 2019, reported at the National Bank of Tajikistan.

The regulator noted that in general there are more than 2.8 million such payment cards in circulation.

However, the vast majority of holders use payment cards to withdraw cash.

For 8 months, holders of payment cards made transactions worth more than 13.3 billion somoni: the amount of cash withdrawal operations is over 12.2 billion somoni, and only slightly more than 1 billion somoni were directed to pay for goods and services.

Tajik credit institutions currently issue payment cards of the national payment system "Korti Milli", international payment systems VISA and Mastercard, joint cards of payment systems UnionPay and "Korti Milli", as well as local bank cards.

At the beginning of September, more than 1.1 thousand ATMs and about 1.9 electronic terminals in trade and service enterprises operated in the republic. Over the year, the number of ATMs increased by almost 47%, and the number of electronic terminals – by 10.2%.
