President Emomali Rahmon, who is also Head of the Government of Tajikistan, yesterday introduces a number of staff changes in the Interior ministry, replacing a number of regional police officials.

Major-General Barotali Homidzoda, who had previously served as Deputy Interior Minister, was appointed to head the Dushanbe Police Directorate, replacing Sharif Nazarzoda.

Lieutenant-General Sharif Nazarzoda was appointed to the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) Police Directorate.

Nazarzoda, 56, had served as Chief of the Dushanbe Police Directorate since 2017.  Prior to this he served as Chief of the Sughd Police Directorate.

The change of the GBAO police chief is taking place against the backcloth of an ambiguous situation that has developed in the region after four-day rallies that took place in Khorog, the capital of the GBAO, in November last year following the killing of a 29-year-old resident of Roshtqala district Gulbiddin Ziyobekov.

By government’s regulation Lieutenant-General Iskandar Solehzoda was appointed to head the Interior Ministry transportation Police Directorate.

Colonel Faizullo Nozimzoda was appointed Chief of the Khatlon Police Directorate.

Major-General Foteh Qunghurozoda was appointed to head the Kulob Police Department.

Besides, chiefs of police departments in Jaihoun, Vakhsh, Temourmalik and Shahritous districts in Khatlon province were also replaced.
