A son of a high-ranking official has sustained stab wound in a brawl in Dushanbe.

Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, says a 24-year-old Zafarjon Sami, who serves as head of the VIP Lounge at Dushanbe International Airport, sustained a stab wound in a brawl that occurred at one of the metropolitan restaurants in Dushanbe’s 112th neighborhood unit on the evening of November 11.

Zafarjon Sami is the son of Sharif Sami, who serves as head of Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district.

According to RFE/RL’s Tajik Service, Sharif Sami neither confirmed nor denied information that his son was wounded in the brawl.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry says criminal proceedings have been instituted over that brawl under the provisions of Article 237 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – hooliganism.

“The investigation has already identified the persons involved in the brawl.  Operations are now underway to arrest them,” an official source within the Interior Ministry said.

Radio Ozodi says that in the past, representatives of the "golden youth" have often got into the news in connection with involvement in traffic accidents.  But even in fatal cases, they reportedly managed to get away with it or deal with minimal consequences.
