President Emomali Rahmon yesterday attended a festive event dedicated to the International Day of Navrouz in the northern city of Khujand.

The Tajik president’s official website says that first, Emomali Rahmon congratulated all compatriots and participants of the solemn Navrouz event on “one of the revered national holidays – Navrouz, wished each family happiness, new achievements, Navrouz abundance and fertility.”

The head of state called independence the fateful gift of the nation, and Navrouz the golden pillar of the glorious history of the Tajiks that jointly unite today's and future generations with national traditions and customs bequeathed to us by our glorious ancestors.

President Emomali Rahmon noted that that one of the important factors in the strength of our nation is the presence of ancient holidays such as Sada, Navrouz, Mehrgon and Tirgon.

After the president’s speech, a grandiose concert program took place at the central stadium of Khujand, representing the achievements of the period of independence, good customs, traditions and rituals of Navrouz, according to the Tajik president’s website.
