Two migrants from Tajikistan were killed in a mass brawl in the Russian city of Chekhov in the Moscow oblast on the night of August 1.

Russian media quoted law enforcement as saying that two people were stabbed in the brawl that took place in Chekhov near Moscow on the night of August 1 and died on the spot.

Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reported on August 3 that according to available information, the conflict arose between residents of Khatlon province (southern Tajikistan) and Faizobod district (Rasht Valley in eastern Tajikistan).

Two residents of Faizobod district – a 28-year-old resident of Fathobod district Daler Taghoizoda and a 31-year-old resident of Muminobod village Daler Yusufzoda – were killed in the conflict.

The head of The 30th Anniversary of Independence jamoat (jamoat is the third-level administrative division, similar to communes or municipalities, which is further subdivided into villages) in Faizobod district, Navrouz Nouriddinov, on August 2 confirmed to RFE/RL’s Tajik Service the fact of the murder of two residents of his jamoat and said that their bodies were supposed to be returned to homeland on Thursday.

The Tajik Embassy in Moscow told RFE/RL’s Tajik Service on August 2 that the incident involved 10 Tajik nationals and that two suspects are wanted, while the others were detained by the Moscow Region Investigative Committee.

Meanwhile, Russia’s lopasnya.ru reported on August 2 that “police officers have detained for Central Asians, aged 24 to 30, on suspicion of being involved the stabbing that took place in the city of Chekhov on July 31.

There have been several instances of mass brawls between migrants in the Russian Federation.  RFE/RL’s Tajik Service says that as a result of brawl between Tajik migrants that took place in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg two months ago two people were stabbed to death.

Hundreds of thousands of Tajik seasonal workers annually travel to the Russian Federation.  Every year hundreds of them die from diseases, accidents and other incidents.
