Four families from Kulob, whose houses were seriously damaged in a traffic accident that took place in the city on August 6, 2023 have received the keys to new houses, Jahongirshoh Rustamshoh, a spokesman for Khatlon governor, writes on his Facebook page.

According to him, the new houses have been built in an abandoned area of Somoni bazaar in Kulob’s Dousti neighborhood unit.

The houses have reportedly been built due to funds provided by the Khatlon, regional administration, Kulob administration, local mosques, and the ruling People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT).

Rustamshoh notes that Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda and Khatlon Governor Davlatali Said handed the keys to new houses to residents of Kulob, whose houses were seriously damaged in the August 6 traffic accident, on January 4.

Recall, at least ten people were killed and thirteen others were injured on August 6, 2023 as Chinese-made big-truck rammed several cars and crashed into residential buildings in the southern city of Kulob.

The Interior Ministry’s official website said the accident took place at about 7:30 pm on the Juma Street near Somoni bazaar.

According to the Interior Ministry, the truck's braking system failed.  The Interior Ministry says the truck belonging to Kafolat Voridotu Sodirot Company was driven by a 37-year-old resident of Roudaki district.

An official source within the Kulob health directorate told Asia-Plus at the time that according to the preliminary data, ten people, including three local women and drivers of seven vehicles  involved in the accident (the big-truck and six crumpled vehicles), were killed and thirteen others were injured in that accident.

Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, reported on August 6, 2023 that at least fourteen people were killed in the August 6 traffic accident in Kulob.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office investigated the cause of this accident.  The Emergencies Committee said at the time that seven vehicles and three residential buildings had been damaged as a result of the accident.
