Kazakhstan’s trade with Central Asian countries decreasing

Zakon.kz says Kazakhstan’s trade with Central Asia’s nations has been decreasing.

Over the first quarter of this year, Kazakhstan external trade turnover has reported been estimated at 31.2 billion US dollars, which is 5.6 percent fewer than in the same period last year.  

The Institute for Economic Studies of Kazakhstan notes that over the reporting period, the share of Kazakhstan’s trade with the Central Asian nations (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) in its external trade turnover has reportedly been only 5.1 percent.    

The volume of trade turnover of Kazakhstan with Central Asia’s nations was distributed as follows:  

 

  • Uzbekistan – 895.5 million US dollars (55.8 percent);
  • Kyrgyzstan – 337.7 million US dollars (21.1 percent);
  • Tajikistan – 264.8 million US dollars (16.5 percent);
  • Turkmenistan – 105.3 million US dollars (6.6 percent).

 

Over the first three months of this year, Kazakhstan’s trade with Central Asia’s nations has valued at 1.6 billion US dollars.  This consisted of Kazakhstan’s exports to the Central Asian countries estimated at 1.2 billion US dollars (10-9-percent decrease compared to the same period last year) and Kazakhstan’s imports from the Central Asian nations worth 385.3 million US dollars (20.5-percent decrease compared to the same period last year).
