On Thursday October 3, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met in Doha with the Amir of the State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the sidelines of the 3rd summit of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), according to the Tajik president’s official website. 

The parties reportedly discussed a wide range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar.

Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the high-level meetings, which he described as a sign of mutual trust and brotherhood between the two countries.

Tajik leader emphasized that expanding trade and economic cooperation with Qatar is a priority of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.

Both sides reprotedly identified energy, industry, agriculture, banking, tourism, transportation, and communications as promising areas for future collaboration.

They also expressed support for the intensification of the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation and recognized the importance of attracting investments from Qatar, particularly from the Qatar Fund for Development, in various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy, including energy production.

The establishment of joint ventures in sectors such as food production was noted as beneficial to both nations.

Other topics of discussion included professional training in service industries, the creation of a Language Learning Center in Tajikistan, and cooperation in culture, science, and education.

The expansion of inter-parliamentary relations and the activation of the parliamentary friendship group were also highlighted as essential for further strengthening ties.

The Tajik president’s official website says lastly, the two leaders exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.

Meanwhile, The Peninsula reports that the meeting was attended by Chief of the Amiri Diwan HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, and a number of senior officials.  It was also attended by officials from the Tajik side, a number of members of the accompanying official delegation.
