An international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Constitution took place in Dushanbe.

Tajikistan’s state-run news agency Khovar reports that Initiated by the Majlisi Oli (Tajikistan’s parliament), the event brought together parliament speakers from eleven countries of the world, including Tajikistan.

The Majlisi Milli’s official website says parliament speakers and parliamentary delegation from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in the conference.

The conference was reportedly held in four sections in different halls of the new building of the country’s parliament.

The following themes were discussed in the sections: The Role of President Emomali Rahmon in Development of Parliamentarism and Adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan;  Constitution is the Basis for Sustainable Development of National Statehood; Constitution and Right and Freedoms of Women; and Constitution and Youth.

Along with this, members of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), as well as representatives of the country’s government and judicial system, universities and parliamentary delegations reportedly spoke in the sections.

The Constitution of Tajikistan was adopted on 6 November 1994 and amended three times, on September 26, 1999, on June 22, 2003 and 22 May 22, 2016.

The Constitution has the highest legal power, direct application (Article 10) and supremacy on the whole territory of Tajikistan. The Constitution proclaims the establishment of a democratic, legal, secular and unitary State (Article 1), where the State power is based on the principle of separation of powers (Article 9).
