As of October 8, 44,570 tons of coal, 39,960 cubic meters of firewood, and 19,600 liters of diesel fuel have been stocked in Tajikistan's educational institutions for the winter period, according to the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES).

An official source within a MoED says a total of 56,290 tons of coal, 54,170 cubic meters of firewood, and 116,810 liters of diesel fuel are required to meet the ministry’s needs during the 2024-2025 autumn-winter season,.

Currently, reserves reportedly stand at 79% of the coal target, 74% for firewood target, and only 17% for diesel fuel target.  The shortages amount to 21% for coal, 26% for firewood, and 83% for diesel fuel.

The process of stockpiling fuel and food supplies is ongoing, the source added.

 

Regional fuel reserves

In Dushanbe’s general education institutions, coal reserves are at 28%, firewood at 109%, and diesel fuel at 130%.

In Sughd province, coal and firewood reserves are at 100%, while diesel is at 7%.

In Khatlon province, coal reserves are at 86%, firewood at 66%, and diesel at 10%.

In districts subordinate to the center, coal reserves stand at 64.3%, firewood at 54.5%, and diesel at 23.5%.

In the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), educational institutions reportedly require 5,450 tons of coal, 7,730 cubic meters of firewood, and 1,790 liters of diesel fuel for the autumn-winter period.

As of October 8, GBAO has stocked 5,460 tons of coal (100%), 7,520 cubic meters of firewood (97%), and 700 liters of diesel fuel (39%).

According to the MoES, a total of 1,591 boilers, 23,650 electric heaters, and 47,830 stoves have been prepared across the country’s educational institutions.  More than 15,000 square meters of double-glazed windows have been installed, which is 59% of the target, with 25,550 square meters still required.
