The Prosecutor-General's Office has commented on the verdict for the lawyer Fayzali Yuldoshev (Fayzi Oli), who was jailed for providing false information about bribery by employees of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Accounting Chamber of Tajikistan.

It was previously reported that a court in Dushanbe’s Sino district sentenced the 74-year-old Fayzi Oli to 2 ½ years in prison on November 29, under the charge of “knowingly false reporting.”

A statement released by the Prosecutor’s Office on December 3, says Fayzi Oli, contrary to the requirements of the law on advocacy, acted "with the aim of disorganizing the work of government agencies, seeking revenge, and without notifying his client about the initiation of a criminal case and the court’s decision," regularly sending written complaints to the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Security Council, the Anti-Corruption Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Accounting Chamber of Tajikistan.

According to the Prosecutor-General’s Office, in these complaints, Fayzi Oli claimed that prosecutor U. Kholiqzoda allegedly demanded a bribe of 21,000 somonis, that auditor D. Sharifzoda of the Accounting Chamber received a bribe of 50,000 somonis, and that lawyer Kh. Saidova had fraudulently taken 20,000 somonis from Sh. Khomronzoda.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office states that all of these claims were false.

Previously, Fayzi Oli had represented a client in a case concerning the embezzlement of more than 4,000 somonis by a businessman.  After his client was sentenced to prison, Fayzi Oli expressed dissatisfaction with the court's decision and appealed to the relevant authorities.  However, the Prosecutor-General’s Office stated that the lawyer's complaints were investigated but "found no confirmation."

Its statement indicated that criminal proceedings were instituted against Fayzi Oli under Article 346 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code — knowingly false reporting, and he was prosecuted by a decision of the court in Dushanbe’s Sino district.

In the past, Fayzi Oli had represented clients in several high-profile criminal cases, including those involving former judge Saidnouriddin Shamshiddinov and the investigation into the death of Hamza Ikromzoda in a Dushanbe prison.
