In Tajikistan, the nomination of candidates for members of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Assembly of Representatives) in a single nationwide constituency and single-mandate constituencies concluded on January 16, an official source within the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) told Asia-Plus in an interview.
The Commission reportedly approved 28 candidates nominated by the ruling People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT), 13 by the Agrarian Party (APT), 13 by the Party of Economic Reforms (PERT), 6 by the Socialist Party (SPT), 6 by the Communist Party (CPT), and 4 by the Democratic Party (DPT) to be elected by proportional representation (by party list).
There are seven political parties officially functioning in Tajikistan. The source says no candidates were registered from the Social-Democratic Party (SDPT).
The CCER noted that to ensure equal conditions for all candidates and political parties during the election campaign, a unified format and size for campaign posters were established, along with guidelines for their use of mass media.
Parliamentary elections in Tajikistan are scheduled for March 2, 2025. To facilitate the process, 41 single-mandate constituencies, as well as district and precinct commissions, are being formed across the country. Abroad, 36 polling stations will be established at Tajikistan's embassies, consulates, and representative offices in 28 countries worldwide.
Majlisi Namoyandagon (Assembly of Representatives) is the lower chamber of Tajikistan’s Parliament with 63 members elected for a five-year term.
Members of the Majlisi Namoyandagon are elected by two methods; 41 members are elected in single-member constituencies using the two-round system, whilst 22 are elected by proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency, with an electoral threshold of 5%.
