Following the results of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China on September 1, 15 new cooperation documents were signed, including an agreement on the establishment of the SCO Anti–Drug Center in Dushanbe.

Speaking at the meeting, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon noted that the signed agreements on the establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Center and the Universal Center for Countering Challenges and Threats to the Security of the SCO member states "open up new prospects for our cooperation in these areas."

The President stressed that in order to expand multilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism and its financing, the Dushanbe Process on Combating Terrorism is actively advancing on the initiative of Tajikistan and with the support of the United Nations.

The summit participants adopted the Tianjin Declaration, in which they condemned the US and Israeli strikes on Iran in June 2025, pointed out the inadmissibility of damaging the nuclear infrastructure during military conflicts, called for a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and providing humanitarian assistance to local residents.

Emomali Rahmon reaffirmed Tajikistan's unwavering position on the situation in the Middle East and other war-torn regions, noting that "negotiations and dialogue are the only way to resolve all crises and conflicts."

The Head of Tajikistan considers it necessary to further expand the political dialogue between the countries of the organization, as well as cooperation in economic sectors.

"We consider it important to develop cooperation in priority areas of the economy, including transport and transit, energy, industry, agriculture, innovation and digitalization," Rahmon said.

Tajikistan's opportunities to attract investments in the development of industry, the creation of modern enterprises for the processing of minerals and the agro-industrial sector were presented. Considering Tajikistan's natural potential, he called on the summit participants to expand cooperation in the field of tourism, especially environmental, mountain and medical tourism.

Emomali Rahmon recalled Tajikistan's global initiatives in the field of glacier and water conservation and recognized the importance of strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the implementation of new educational and social projects. He invited the partners to participate in the SCO Youth Forum, which will be held in Tajikistan in 2026.

The President welcomed the accession of the Lao People's Democratic Republic as the 15th partner of the SCO, stressing the need for close cooperation between the countries of the SCO family, the United Nations, regional partner organizations and other stakeholders.

The SCO was founded on June 15, 2001 by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Currently, the organization includes 10 countries – in addition to those mentioned, these are Belarus, India, Iran and Pakistan. Another half dozen countries have the status of the SCO partner.
