Media reports say Egypt has officially unveiled the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), a monumental cultural project two decades in the making. Situated just outside the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza, the museum is being hailed as the world’s largest archaeological museum, showcasing over 100,000 artefacts spanning more than 7,000 years of Egyptian history, from pre-dynastic times to the Greek and Roman periods, according to the BBC.

One of the museum’s centerpiece attractions is the complete collection of treasures from the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, displayed in full for the first time. Visitors can view the young ruler’s iconic golden mask, throne, and chariots, among hundreds of personal belongings.

GEM is expected to significantly boost Egypt’s tourism sector, with projections of up to 8 million visitors annually. Among the museum’s other highlights:

·         A 3,200-year-old, 16-meter suspended obelisk of Pharaoh Ramesses II.

·         An 11-meter-high statue of the powerful ruler.

·         A grand staircase lined with statues of ancient kings and queens.

·         A panoramic window on the upper floor offering a breathtaking view of the Giza pyramids.

·         A newly presented exhibit of Khufu’s 4,500-year-old funerary boat—one of the oldest and best-preserved vessels from antiquity.

The opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum marks a new era for Egypt’s cultural heritage and aims to position the country as a leading global destination for archaeology and
