Taliban foreign ministry: foreign ministers of Tajikistan and Afghanistan discuss border situation

Date:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban announced on December 2 that that Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has held phone talks with Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

In the statement shared on the Taliban’s social media, the two sides reportedly expressed their readiness to jointly investigate the attacks from Afghan territory on Tajikistan and to enhance security measures along the border.

Amir Khan Muttaqi emphasized the need for joint efforts to ensure stability in the region.

"Tajikistan and Afghanistan have recently created an atmosphere of trust for political, economic cooperation, and security. However, some forces are trying to undermine this process," the Taliban’s statement reads, without specifying which groups or forces might be attempting to disrupt the stabilization process.

Both sides reportedly agreed to continue regular contact between border services, security cooperation committees, and other agencies to make the region more stable and trustworthy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan has not yet commented on this phone conversation.

Attacks on Chinese nationals

It should be noted that on November 26 and 30, there were two attacks from Afghan territory on Chinese nationals working in Tajikistan. As a result of these incidents, five Chinese nationals were killed, and five others were injured.

On December 1, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held a working meeting with heads of the country's law enforcement and security structures, during which he "strongly condemned the illegal and provocative actions of Afghan nationals" on the Tajik-Afghan border. Rahmon instructed responsible officials to take effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
