KHUJAND, October 13, 2010, Asia-Plus — Over the first nine months of this year, 37 residents of Sughd province have been detained abroad for drug trafficking, Sughd chief prosecutor Yusuf Rahmonov told reporters in Khujand don October 12.
According to him, 140 kilograms of narcotics have been confiscated from them.
The Sughd chief prosecutor noted that foreign citizens have also been detained on territory of the province over the report period for various crimes.
In January-September this year, 17 foreign citizens, primarily nationals of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan ad China, have committed 19 crimes in northern Tajikistan. “They have been detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking, illegal border crossing, hooliganism, thefts, rapes and other crimes,” Rahmonov noted.
