KULOB, September 30, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The cotton-harvesting campaign is progressing in the Kulob zone of Khatlon province.

Abdullo Rajabov, a lead specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, told Asia-Plus today that five cotton producing districts in the Kulob zone have yielded 28,504 tons of raw cotton to this day, which is 55.02 percent of their target that has been determined at 51,238 tons of cotton.

According to him, Hamadoni district has reached 64.43 percent of its cotton target by September 30, Farkhor – 60.32 percent, Vose and Danghara districts – more than 50 percent each.

Local cotton farming units now pay 40.00 diram per one kilogram of cotton to cotton pickers.  On September 29, 41,244 people, with only 400 of them being volunteers, worked in cotton fields in the area.

Cotton growers in Kulob plan to fulfill their cotton target by October 15, Rajabov noted.
