KONIBODOM, August 2, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Two public associations – Molodyozh i Tsivilizatsiya (Youth and Civilization) from Khujand and Payvandi Shahrvandi (Civic Link) from Konibodom – have launched the project, [Say] No to Religious Extremism.

The Payvandi Shahrvandi chairperson, Ms. Musharraf Hasanova, says the project is being implemented within the framework of the program, Assistance to Trans-border Cooperation in Ferghana IV, under support of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).

The main objective of the project is in involving population of border areas in prevention dissemination of religious extremism and radicalism ideas through joining of efforts and opportunities to ensure development of dialogue and mutual cooperation in the city of Konibodom and Jabborrasulov district, Sughd province.

The project provides for organization of the “Dialogue Group” on the subject of “Participation of the Public in Preventing Spread of Religious Extremism and Radicalism in the Region” in six rural communities, as well as establishment of working groups from among local activists, holding of six presentations in a form of slide-show for senior school students on the subject of “Participation of Youth in Preventing Spread of Religious Extremism and Radicalism,” and organization of roundtables with participation of representatives from local law enforcements agencies, local authorities, and media as well as clerics and public activists for the purpose of developing recommendations and proposals on preventing religious extremism in the area.

“To draw attention of residents of the Jabborrasulov district and Konibodom to this problem we plan to closely cooperate with local media,” Hasanova said.

The grant program, Assistance to Trans-border Cooperation in Ferghana Valley, is financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private Danish humanitarian organization, founded in 1956.  It serves as an umbrella organization for 33 member organizations.  The Danish Refugee Council works in some 30 countries throughout the world to help refugees by giving aid and helping in rehabilitation.  DRC has been active in humanitarian projects throughout the world.
