KHUJAND, July 26, 2010, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan is taking efforts to revive the river craft, consisting of small-displacement diesel-powered vessels in the northern Sughd province.
“These are mainly diesel-propelled ships of 18 to 24 tons’ displacement,” said the source, “A part of them has been repaired and reintroduced into operation.”
Seven of these vessels are deployed in the Qairoqqum reservoir and the other one is deployed in the Syrdarya River within the precincts of Khujand, the capital of Sughd province. These vessels are mainly used for pleasure trips, the source added.
