DUSHANBE, July 26, 2010, Asia-Plus — A working group made up of representatives form Tajikistan’s Ombudsman Office and specialists from the UNIFEM CO in Tajikistan is currently in Sughd province to monitor observance of women’s rights to property in the area, according to the Committee for Family and Women’s Rights.

The working group arrived in the province on July 24 and the same day, they visited Spitamen, Jabborrasulov and Bobojonghafurov districts, where they listened to complaints of local women over violation of their rights.

“The complaints mainly concerned issues related to land use and access to irrigation water, as well as violation of labor and housing laws,” the source said.

According to him, 18 district information resource and consultative centers now successfully operate in northern Tajikistan.  “Over the first six months of this year, some 1,400 local women have applied to the centers and the center employees have made available necessary information to them and more than half of the problems have been solved positively.”

On Sunday, the working group visited Isfara district.
