Dushanbe. June 25. “Asia-Plus” — Yesterday, June 24, Safarali Najmiddinov, Tajik Minister of Finance, met with Ms. Beata Kolecka, Head of Unit Geographical Coordination and Supervision, Directorate for Asia including Central Asia, EuropeAid.
The sides met to discuss the issues and perspectives of further cooperation between Tajikistan and European Union, Tajik Finance Ministry’s secretariat told the AP.
“Najmiddinov said that significant progress in Tajikistan’s economic development has been achieved in the course of Tajik-EU cooperation, especially in the field of budget support aimed at reforming of priority sectors of Tajikistan. Additionally, positive evaluation was given to effective receipt of grants through budget support which resulted in additional support from WB and ADB,” the ministry has said.
The sides have also discussed issues of the Program of Budget Support to Sector Policy in Social Sector for 2007-2012. Tajik Minister of Finance also urged to speed up procedures of tranches allocated to support pension reform, which is very important in the conditions of current financial situation.
“Ms. Kolecka, on her turn, assured EC’s commitment to provision of further assistance to Tajikistan and said that major portion of financial support in the frames of Country Assistance for 2011-2013 will be allocated to Tajikistan as compared with other Central Asian countries. The assistance will mainly focus on support of reforms in health care, agriculture, private sector development in agricultural sector. Additionally, support to the development of the country’s financial sector will continue. Under Country Assistance, European Union is planning to provide support to modernization of Tajikistan’s energy sector at the expense of European investment banks,” top Tajik finance official said, stressing that EU’s assistance to Tajikistan’s economy is crucial in the conditions of continuing global financial crisis and will let continue ongoing reforms in priority sectors.
