KULOB. June 9. “Asia-Plus” — Moscow laboratory has confirmed two cases of poliomyelitis in residents of Kulob region of Khatlon district.

According to deputy head of the Regional Health Department for Khatlon area Mirzoali Miraliev, one resident of Khovaling and resident of Vose regions were confirmed to have polio symptoms.

He said that a total of 78 people were hospitalized in the region with polio symptoms in 2010. “However, not a single patient was hospitalized during this week,” he added, saying that such a decline is connected with the recent nation-wide polio vaccination.

“A total of 448.068 people have been covered with vaccination,” he said, adding that children under 6 years of age were vaccinated during all three stages of the vaccination campaign.

According to Miraliev, several independent monitoring groups were set up yesterday to reveal new polio cases and deal with vaccination.
