DUSHANBE. June 5. “Asia-Plus” — Tajik law enforcement agencies have identified the two gunmen killed in recent special operation, Tajik Ministry of Interior told the AP.

According to the source, they were residents of Isfara region of Sughd district Abdurahim Umarov, 32, and 31-year-old Abdurahmon Bahhobov.

Umarov was identified as an active member of the IMU who is wanted by the police since 1999 for terrorism, illegal weapon storage, organization of criminal group and other crimes. “As for Vahhobov, he was identified as a member of an extremist underground group and is wanted since 2004,” the source has said.

The two were trained in special training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan. “The police have found two Makarov guns with 1000 shells, detonator, Afghan money, literature of extremist character and a terrorist map. All these items were found in Ziddi place in Varzob region where two suspected terrorist were killed by the police,” the source reported.

Tajik SWAT were also involved in the operation. One SWAT officer, Tohir Safarov, was killed and one civilian reported wounded.
