DUSHANBE, February 18, 2009, Asia-Plus — Completion of construction of a 500-kV 350-kilometer electricity transmission line South-North linking power systems of southern and northern regions of Tajikistan was the focus of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with visiting Chairman of the Board of Directors of China’s Tebian Electric Apparatus Stock Co., Ltd. (TBEA) Chzhan Sin (phonetically spelled), according to presidential press service.
In the course of the talks, the sides discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and TBEA in implementation of a number of energy projects in Tajikistan.
We will recall that TBEA has been granted contracts to build high-voltage power grids in Tajikistan, including a 500-kW 350-kilometer electricity transmission line South-North linking power systems of Tajik southern and northern regions and a 220-kW 93-kilometer line Khatlon-Lolazor in the Khatlon province.
Construction of the South-North power grid that will be capable to transmit up to 8 billion kWh of electrical power per year began in September 2006 and is scheduled to be finished in 2010.
However, President Rahmon today asked the TBEA top manager to complete construction of the power grid by the end of this year. For his part, Mr. Chzhan Sin promised to make every effort for this, the press service said.
The sides also discussed issues related to construction of a 200MW heat and power station in Dushanbe, hydropower plant Nourobod-1 and rehabilitation of the transformer-producing plant in Tajikistan.
