KULOB, April 19, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Two officers of a Russian military unit deployed in Kulob have got jail terms of 1½ and six months respectively for killing their colleague.

The Kulob city court sentences two officers of the Russian military unit deployed in Kulob – Captain Ivan Khitrin and Captain Aleksey Bobkov – to 1½ years and six months in prison respectively on April 18.

The source at the Kulob court says the sentence followed Captain Khitrin’s (he got a jail term of 1½ years) conviction on charges on inflicting several stab wounds on Senior Lieutenant Valery Mikhailov and abandonment of injured without aid and Captain Bobkov got a jail term of six months for not reporting the crime to police.  Khitrin and Bobkov will serve their terms at a pretrial detention facility in Kulob.

We will recall that Russian army officer Valery Mikhailov was killed by another Russian officer during a dispute on January 6 this year.  Investigation by the Kulob prosecutor office concluded on January 11 that Russian Captain Khitrin was responsible for Mikhailov”s death.

Mikhailov”s body was found in Kulob”s Victory Park on January 6.  The investigation established that the same day, Mikhailov and Khitrin left the Russian base in Kulob with two other officers.  Khitrin and Mikhailov began arguing in the park and that Khitrin stabbed Mikhailov, who was left unattended in the park.  According to the Kulob prosecutors, Mikhailov could have been saved if he had received immediate medical assistance.
