DUSHANBE, March 18, 2010, Asia-Plus — Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov arrived in Dushanbe today morning on a state two-day visit.
Davlat Nazriyev, head of the Tajik MFA information department, says that Berdymuhammedov is holding talks with his Tajik counterpart at the moment, President Emomali Rahmon. The presidents will sign a joint statement and enlarged negotiations wit participation of the governmental delegations of the two countries will result in signing of six government-to-government and interagency documents on cooperation in different sectors.
Today, Turkmen leader is also scheduled to hold talks with Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Shukurjon Zuhurov and meet with teaching staff and students from Tajik State Medical University in Dushanbe. 600 Turkmen students now study at Tajik State Medical University, the MFA spokesman said.
On March 19, Rahmon and Berdymuhammedov will attend celebrations dedicated to the Navrouz holiday in the Danghara district, Khatlon province.
To-date, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have singed 69 bilateral documents, including 41 intestate and 20 interagency agreements.
According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, trade between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan has valued at 9.163 million U.S. dollars over the first two months of this year. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Turkmenistan estimated at 127,000 U.S. dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Turkmenistan worth 9.035 million U.S. dollars. In 2009, trade between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan amounted 63.925 million U.S. dollars, which was 8.6 percent fewer than in 2008.
