DUSHANBE, November 27, 2009, Asia-Plus — Officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) have seized 744.676 kilograms of narcotics in the first ten months of 2009, according to the DCA press service.
A totaled included 303.108 kilograms of heroin, 142.64 kilograms of raw opium and 298.529 kilograms of cannabis.
Over the same ten-month period, the counternarcotics agency has stopped 130 drug trafficking attempts, which is 43 percent more than in the same period of last year.
During the same period, the DCA has instituted 117 criminal proceedings on drug charges; of them, 99 criminal proceedings instituted against 127 people have already moved to courts.
Over the report period, the counternarcotics agency has burned 1,791.409 kilograms of narcotics that were confiscated in the course of 2008-2009.
In January-October 2009, the drug control officers have carried out four operations jointly with Tajik law enforcement agencies and border troops. The operations led to the seizure of more than 76 kilograms of drugs, including 10.688 kilograms of heroin, 12.774 kilograms of raw opium and 52.55 kilograms of cannabis.
