KHUJAND November 10, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Five suicides and one attempted suicide have been reported in the Sughd province over the last week, according to the Sughd police directorate.

On November 8, the 16-year-old teenager from the village of Navgilem in the Isfara district Izatullo Soliyev committed suicide by self-hanging.  Local prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident.

Another suicide case was reported in the city of Chkalovsk, where the 36-year-old Sarvar Karimov also killed himself by self-hanging.

Last week, the 30-year-old Buston Urmonov from the Jabbororasoulov district, 21-year-old Mavlouda Qurbonova from Asht and 20-year-old Zarrina Ochilova from Khujand also committed suicide by self-hanging.

Medical workers managed to save the life of 18-year-old woman from Khujand S.R., who attempted to kill herself by taking a large amount of tablets, the source said.

Over the first nine months of this year, 113 suicides and 68 attempted suicides have been reported in Sughd.  In January-September 2008, 132 suicides and 45 attempted suicides were reported in the area.
