DUSHANBE, October 30, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajik society does not accept domination of one political party in parliament and wants to see representatives of different political parties in parliament, the leader of the Communist Party (CPT) Shodi Shabdolov remarked at a roundtable meeting formally titled “Political Parties and Parliamentary Elections” in Dushanbe yesterday.
According to him, the Communist Party is ready for the upcoming parliamentary elections due in February 2010. “Our party hopes elections will be fair and transparent,” said Shabdolov, “However, we cannot predict how many seats we will win in the parliament.”
He added that it was also impossible to conjecture to what an extent the parliamentary elections would be fair and open. “In no country of the world, elections have been absolutely fair and transparent,” the Communist leader said.
Shabdolov is convinced that if different political parties are not represented in the parliament it will be lifeless.
“Unlike the People’s Democratic (PDPT) or Islamic Revival (IRPT) parties, our party does not have enough financial opportunities and I think that our not good financial state will play against us during the parliamentary elections,” Shabdolov said.
