KHUJAND, October 23, 2009, Asia-Plus — In January-September 2009, the northern Sughd province has produced a total of 775.9609 million somoni (TJS) worth of industrial goods, according to the Sughd agency for statistics.
Compared to January-September 2008 the index of the volume of production of industrial goods amounted to some 100 percent.
Mastchoh, Zafarobod, Panjakent, Spitamen and Jabborrasulov districts have failed to ensure industrial production growth this year. “The fall in industrial production volumes has resulted from irregular electricity supplies, incomplete use of production capacity, shortage of circulating assets and raw materials as well as lack of product market,” the source said.
Over the first nine months year, only 137 enterprises, or 57.7 percent of the overall number (239), have managed to reach last year’s production level. Moreover, 80 enterprises (33.9 percent) have reduced production volumes, and 21 enterprises (8.8 percent) have not been in operation.
According to the source, joint ventures accounted for 20.2 percent of the overall volume of industrial goods produced in the region over the report period.
