DUSHANBE, September 30, 2009, Asia-Plus — Chairman of Russia’s Chamber of Accounts Sergey Stepashin has offered to conduct an external audit at the CIS bodies.
He remarked this while delivering a statement at the 9th session of the CIS council of supreme financial control body heads in Dushanbe today.
According to him, the CIS states provide considerable funds from their budgets for maintenance of functioning of the CIS bodies and the council of supreme financial control body heads has not conducted the external audit at these bodies so far.
“Therefore, I propose to consider this issue at this session and if you support my proposal to set up a single working group representing financial control bodies of our countries, we with Fattoh Saidov (director of Tajikistan’s Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption), who now serves as rotating chairman of the council, will send an appropriate letter to the present head of the Council Executive Committee,” Stepashin said.
He also pointed to the necessity make participation of the CIS council of supreme financial control body heads in tackling socioeconomic problems at the “macro level” and strengthening state discipline more active.
The Russian financial control chief also underlined the importance of the fight against corruption and money laundry.
We will recall that Representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine met in Dushanbe. They, in particular, discussed issues related to mitigation of effects of the global financial and economic crisis.
