DUSHANBE, January 4, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has given the green light for humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan to pass through it territory.
On Thursday January 1, President Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
According to presidential press service, Rahmon and Karzai discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
They, in particular, discussed the transit of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. The presidents reached an agreement on the transit of humanitarian shipments including food, fuel and building materials for Afghanistan.
The two leaders also discussed joint cooperation in security and fighting drug smuggling and agreed to exchange official visits in a bid to expand bilateral cooperation.
Both sides spoke for joint measures to counter the ongoing global economic and financial crisis, the press service said.
