DUSHANBE, July 11, 2011, Asia-Plus — The 29th congress of the Communist Party of Tajikistan that took place in Dushanbe on July 9 reelected the 67-year-old Shodi Shabdolov leader of the party.
The source at the CPT board says the congress reviewed the results of five-year’s work of the party and elected new management of the party.
“The party activists from all regions of the country as well as representatives of a number of diplomatic missions active in Tajikistan attended the congress,” Shabdolov said.
According to him, representatives of international Communist movement and Communist parties of other countries were not been invited to the congress due to the party’s financial problems.
Founded in 1918, the Communist Party of Tajikistan now has 40,000 members. The party was reregistered in 1991 and Shodi Shabdolov has been unchallenged leader of the CPT since 1991.
