DUSHANBE, December 8 2011, Asia-Plus — The Government of Japan provides US$112,106 as a grant for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Secondary School No.6 in Alichur jamoat, Murgab District” in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Mr. Murzabay Joshbayev, Chairperson of Murgab district signed the grant contract for the project on December 7.

School No.6 is in poor condition due to the cold weather of the region and the lack of renovation.  The school roofs have become worn-out with big holes on broken asbestos sheets.  The humidity has destroyed doors and windows of school. There is an acute shortage of school equipment.

The rehabilitation work including renovation of roofs, windows and walls will be conducted through the project.  Additionally, school equipment such as desks, chairs and blackboards will be renewed. Improvement of school infrastructure by the project will contribute to a long-term positive influence on education in the Alichur jamoat, Murgab district.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 20.8 million for 280 projects in Tajikistan.
