DUSHANBE, February 3, 2012, Asia-Plus – On Friday March 2, Tajikistan”s Ambassador to the European Union Rustamjon Soliyev met in Brussels with Mr. Jan Peters Ebsen, Vice-President of Norsk Hydro ASA.

According to the Tajikistan”s Mission to the European Union, Ambassador Soliyev informed Mr. Ebsen of Tajikistan’s hydropower potential and production of aluminum in Tajikistan.

For his part, Mr. Ebsen assessed positively activity of the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO).  Touching upon Tajikistan’s hydropower potential, Norsk Hydro ASA official reportedly noted that the hydropower potential should be used to provide socioeconomic development of the country and expansion of aluminum production.

The sides also considered issues related to cooperation between TALCO and Hydro Aluminuim and the possibility of participation of Hydro Energy in implementation of hydroelectricity projects in Tajikistan, the source said.

Norsk Hydro ASA is a Norwegian aluminum and renewable energy company, headquartered in Oslo.  The Norwegian state holds a 43.8 percent ownership interest in the company, which employs approximately 28,000 people.

Hydro is the fourth largest integrated aluminum company worldwide. It has operations in some 40 countries around the world and is active on all continents.  In Norway, Hydro has plants in Rjukan, Porsgrunn, Vennesla, Karmoy, Hoyanger, Ardal, Sunndalsora, Holmestrand and Magnor.  The corporation also has plants abroad.

Hydro is also a major producer of wind and hydroelectric power.
