DUSHANBE, June 22, 2012, Asia-Plus – International working group met here on June 21 in the framework of the project, Tajikistan Drug Control Agency (DCA) – Phase II.

The DCA press center reports the meeting discussed the process of implementation of measures connected with payment of grants to the Agency for the first half-year of 2012 and worked out the plan for financing the mentioned project in the second half of 2012.

The meeting participants, in particular, noted that the DCA had taken specific measures to strengthen drug control capacities and expand cooperation both at national and international levels.

The group also heard report on the results of the operational activity of the counternarcotics agency over the first five months of this year.

The meeting participants reportedly decided to set up the training center for law enforcement officers, acquire technical equipment for the DCA mini studio, begin construction of the specialized department to combat drug trafficking, etc.

“Tajikistan Drug Control Agency (DCA) – Phase II” is a flagship project that started in 2003 to build an independent law enforcement agency reporting directly to the President.  The idea of the project is to focus expertise and skills for running advanced counter-narcotics operation under one umbrella.

The Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan was established with the support of UNODC project in 2000.  The DCA has become the lead drug enforcement agency in the country with the capacity to undertake long term intelligence-led operations.  The DCA’s drug liaison officers based in the Afghan provinces bordering with Tajikistan are operating successfully.
