, February 1, Asia-Plus – Academician Mamadsho Ilolov, President of Tajikistan’s

Academy

of

Sciences

, denied an opinion that the Academy has not carried out any appreciable research works as unfounded.

He remarked this at a briefing in

Dushanbe

on Wednesday February 1.  According to him, at present the government is not in position to provide enough funds to finance science therefore Tajik researchers have to hope for assistance of donors.  Last ear, donors provided US$2 million for carrying out research works in

Tajikistan

.

Mr. Ilolov stressed that this has a negative aspect because such research work is carried out for investors while for society this work seems to be imperceptible.

“The problem is that some governmental structures do not want to use the intellectual potential of the Academy,” said the academician, “Thus, we have offered an alternative program of use of untraditional sources of powers designed for 2006-2010 but it was ignored.”

“Besides, results of the majority of research works are not applied in practice and industrial sector does not make orders for any research,” the president of the

Academy

of

Sciences

noted.
