DUSHANBE, March 4, Asia-Plus — President Emomli Rahmon yesterday held a meeting with participation of heads of the power-wielding structures to discuss issues related to the fight against crime in the country, according to presidential press service.
Measures to strengthen the fight against organize crime and rug trafficking as well as raising fighting capacity of the country’s armed forces and strengthening border control were focus of the meeting.
The meeting, in particular, heard reports of Tajik chief prosecutor, interior minister and national security kingpin.
Speaking at the meeting, the head of state pointed to the necessity of tightening control over allotting lands for housing and providing implementation of the country’s law on order of observing national traditions and rituals, presidential press service said.
We will recall that speaking to the government on January 28, President Rahmon expressed concern over international threats such terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. He noted that he was especially troubled by cases of Tajik nationals in possession of drugs outside the country. The president added that time that the law enforcement agencies worked hard to prevent drug dealing but note that there were still shortcomings in combating crime and solving crimes. He also expressed serious concern about crimes within the armed forces.
