DUSHANBE, March 7, Asia-Plus  — On Thursday March 6, Prosecutor-General Bobojon Bobokhonov reported to the 14th session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) on execution of laws in 2007.

According to him, prosecutors last year conducted 6,487 inspections of execution of laws, and as a result of the inspections 18,000 persons were reprimanded and criminal proceedings were instituted against 1,239 persons.

The chief prosecutor noted that a special attention had been given to implementation of land legislation in the country.  341 inspections by prosecutors recorded numerous instances of illegal allotment of land for housing; 1,787 persons were reprimanded and criminal proceedings were instituted against 85 persons, Bobokhonov noted that in the Urunkhojayev Farm (Sughd’s Bobojonghafruov district) alone, 500 hectares had been illegally allotted for housing and personal plots.  “In the Vahdat district, 400 hectares of areas requiring irrigation were illegally distributed,” the chief prosecutor said.

Speaking at the session, Bobokhonov also expressed serious concern about illegal privatization of a number of enterprises.  Many privatized enterprises are not in operation or work not in full capacity, according to him.
