DUSHANBE, March 7, Asia-Plus  — A two-day official visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko to Tajikistan started yesterday evenin.

Viktor Yushchenko heading a high-raking Ukrainian delegation arrived in Dushanbe at 7:00 p.m.  At the Dushanbe airport he was met by President Emomali Rahmon and other Tajik state officials.  

President Yushchenko is currently holding talks with President Emomali Rahmon.  Their talks will be followed by negotiations between delegations of the two countries, which are supposed to result in signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents. 

The documents include a joint statement signed by the two heads of state, plan of actions for 2008-2009 and a number of other agreements related to further expansion of economic, scientific and cultural cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine.  .   

After that both presidents will give a joint press conference.

During his stay in Tajikistan, President Yushchenko is also scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov and Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Saydullo Khairulloyev, as well as visit the Norak hydroelectric power stations and see the sites of Sangtuda-1 and Sagntuda-2 hydropower plants.
